Two early pieces of "color music" are combined on this CD with three recent compositions. Colors, a set of variations on a pattern of colors, was composed in a hybird, digitally-controlled analog studio at the University of Pittsburgh in the early 1980s; it was followed by Greetings, an 80th-birthday tribute to Ross Lee Finney, in 1986. The recent works on this CD were composed in my studio in southern Oregon with the SYNTAL_2006 computer-music system. They include Water Colors (2006), in which the recorded sounds of rapids and two waterfalls are modified by patterns of sound colors; Here In Silence (2007), a reflection on the PBS Newshour's Honor Roll of Iraq and Afghanistan war dead; and Winter Rounds (2007), a new set of "crooked rounds" inspired by recollections of Chicago winters.
